Our children are taught mathematics through a variety of methods which include opportunities for exploration and investigation. The school follows the National Numeracy Framework through dedicated mathematics lessons each day. This startegy offers a structured progression with direct teaching and interactive oral work with the whole calss and groups. There is an emphsis on mental calculation, and differentiation ensures that all pupils engage in mathematics relating to a common theme.
At Birchwood Grove, we believe that every child must be given the opportunity to develop his or her full potential. In order to acheive this in mathematics we try to show children that it is not just a subject to be learned, but a means of communicating, explaining, representing and predicting. Above all, mathematics is fascinating, exciting and fun, and our biggest aim is to help our pupils enjoy working mathematically.
