Through the efforts of our PTA., we are fortunate at Birchwood Grove to have an ongoing programme of updating IT equipment. With at least one computer in every classroom the children benefit from regular access to IT through planned work. Children use a range of computers and IT equipment to support their work and build IT skills. The children are introduced to work processing at an early age, using concept keyboards and 'Qwerty' keyboards. Data handling, art and drawing skills are also planned into a variety of curriculum areas. Children are taught about control and used of IT and programmes to support this are 'Logo' and the Roamer Turtle. Further developments in CD ROMs are supported by developing children's information retrieval skills using specific sources like encyclopaedias. We are fortunate to have access to the Internet and have had success with Keystage 1 children sending and receiving their own e-mail. It is hoped that Keystage 2 children will use the internet as a resource for information retrieval for project work. Digital technology has been introduced and children have access to scanners and digital cameras to extend their IT skills further.
