The aim of the art curriculum is to provide children with the opportunity to communicate their own ideas, experiences and emotions. We also aim to develop their visual literacy and their knowledge and understanding of art, craft and design, including the history of art. This is achieved by giving the children an opportunity to experience and develop their skills using a variety of media, including pencil, paint, printing, textiles and clay. Art skills are also used as tools to record in other areas of the curriculum.

At Keystage 2 all children have a sketchbook and a portfolio of work shows evidence of notes, sketches, investigations and completed work over a year. Children will also look at works of influential artists from different periods, cultures and traditions, and make practical connections with the artists and their work.
